Unexpected GFI Routing

You may want to experiment a bit with the electrical circuits in your garage, and around the outside of your home. In some models, all the outside outlets are fed through the GFI circuit breaker on the inside wall of your garage.

Some of us found this out during Christmas Decoration season. When the GFI breaker was flipped due to weather, the outside lights all went out.

We didn't expect the outside outlets to be controlled by a GFI outlet in the garage.

Your TV and Computer Connections go dead. Interestingly, the router box where your TV wiring and Internet connections are, also went dead when the Christmas Lights went out. Turns out the router box is also controlled by the garage GFI circuit.

This may not be true for your house. You need to do some experimentation.

Additional external outlet

Somewhere on the side of your home you may have a GFI breaker which controls ONLY the outside yard light. You can replace that GFI breaker with an outside GFI two-plug outlet. That usually provides an additional electrical connection on the side of your house.
